About Tinneys Irish Shop

    Hello and welcome,
thank-you for your interest in Tinney's Irish Shop. Here are just a few details to help you make a picture of our business.

Overview of About Tinney's Irish Shop

Mission of Tinney's Irish Shop
Tinney's Irish Shop is comitted to the following:
    Top Quality Irish Products.
This is my first of many criteria for the choice of products in Tinney's Irish Shop. I look for interesting products which are made in Ireland. Then I look for products with the Handcrafts signature. Then I try to balance product quality with price. The aim is to optimise this price- quality relationship.

      Customer Service.
We are always seeking to provide the best possible service to our customers. Here our first priority is the swift handling of orders and delivery. Of course as a small company we have to wrestle with limitations, but thanks to the encouraging letters we receive we are convinced we are on track.

    Organisation of Tinney's Irish Shop
Tinney's Irish Shop consists of Tinney's Irish Shop in Heilbronn, Tinney's Irish Shop in Heidelberg and Tinney's Online Irish Shop.
      History of Tinney's Irish Shop
Tinney's Irish Shop went online for the first time on Tuesday 21st January 2003. It complements three retail outlets Tinney's Irish Shop in Neuenstadt which is also our mail order base, Tinney's Irish Shop Heilbronn and Tinney's Irish Shop Heidelberg The whole Internet project came together when I met Kieran Given, a fellow Irish man, living in Germany and who happened to hail from the same corner of Ireland as myself. We discovered quickly that we were on the same wave length and Kieran never short of an idea or two, soon knocked the site together. (by the way his brother was Ireland's goalkeeper in the world cup, Shay Given)

We are based in Neuenstadt, a small Schwäbisch town in Württemberg, south west Germany. It has a great location: within a two to three hours drive you can be in France, or Switzerland. The brain behind the base is Ulrike Müller, who heads up the small team who will look after you in the best possible manner.

The History of Tinney's Irish Shop. Our history goes back a long way. The name Tinney comes from the Irish Mac in tSionnagh, meaning son of the fox. It was anglicised somewhere along the line and it then became Tinney. My father’s people come from Donegal where most Tinneys, I am told, still are to be found. My name is Joseph Tinney and I was born in 1960 in the city of Derry, I grew up in county Tyrone and in 1985 I left Ireland to live in Germany. I met Ingrid, fell in love, married and settled down.
In 1990 I decided to open my first Tinney’s Irish Shop in Neuenstadt, which is in the south west of Germany. I began with a small collection of handwoven Donegal Tweed Jackets from Magee’s of Donegal Town. I then decided to open another Tinney’s Irish Shop in Heilbronn and yet another Tinney’s Irish Shop in Heidelberg Through the years I have gained a thorough knowledge of the Irish Handcraft Producers and their products. Having very good success with Tweed Jackets for Men I began stocking them also for ladies, then came Handknit Aran sweaters, Celtic Jewellery, Irish Whiskey, Bewley’s Teas, Guinness® Giftware and Pottery from Mucros in Killarney and many more Irish Products. This might have been the story complete now, but for the fact that I was continually meeting customers in our Irish Shop in Heidelberg or in Irish Shop Heilbronn, who were asking if I had an Irish shop near them. The answer was of course no but then I decided I would open an Irish Shop online so, in January 2003, we had lift off.
I have a lot to learn of course, and my Online Irish Shop has been a mixed success. But I’m here and I'm staying and prepared to learn. You can of course help me by mailing me your thoughts, your criticisms and perhaps your ideas of how I could improve. I look forward to getting to know you.
