St. Patrick's High Cross.Back to previous page

Art. 2965-031
St. Patrick's High Cross.
Also known as the Carndonagh High Cross from the village in Donegal where it has stood these last thousand years or so!

My own personal favourite among the High Crosses of Ireland, is the Cross of St. Patrick or the Carndonagh High Cross. It is rather primitive in it's craftmanship and the the designs are child-like. It also lacks the ring characteristic for Celtic Crosses. It is thought by many experts to be the oldest of Ireland's High Crosses (perhaps early 9th Century).
